Woman, aide arrested for duping people on pretext of job

A 32-year-old woman identified as Pratibha Setthy alias Rupali Setthy, resident of Boriakhurd, Tikrapara, has been arrested along with her accomplice youth Bhagwat Sahu, 26, resident of Balodabazaar district, by Raipur Police in course of investigation into a case of cheating several persons to the tune of Rs 20 lakhs on the pretext of providing them jobs on different posts in Raipur Municipal Corporation. The complainant in the case Vinod Nishad, a resident of Balodabazaar, had maintained before Kotwali police that the accused Bhagwat Sahu, who resided in his village, projected himself as working in different zones of the municipal corporation and that recruitments were to be done on different posts in the municipal corporation.

The accused Sahu told the complainant and his friends that he had talked to corporation officer Pratibha Setthy, who assured of jobs on payment of money. Believing the accused Sahu, the complainant and his friends gave Rs 20 lakhs in different instalments in January and August, 2015, in the garden located in front of the corporation office. Citing election, both the accused assured the complainant and his friends that the appointment letters would be given to them after one year. As they did not get any job afterwards, both the accused started giving evasive replies to the victims on being contacted over mobile phone and after some time, the accused duo discontinued their contact numbers. The victims later came to know that both the accused were no employee of the municipal corporation. Police investigated the matter and found that the two accused took the hefty amount on the pretext of providing jobs in RMC, but neither gave any job nor returned the money. A case was registered by the police.
