Woman attempted suicide after killing children held

THE accused woman, who was attempting suicide after killing her two children by throwing them into well, was sent to jail on judicial remand on Wednesday after she was produced in the court following her arrest. The offence was reported from Nandini, Durg on Tuesday mor ing. L P Jaiswal, Station House Officer, Nandini Police Station informed that in the course of investigation and on basis of confession of the accused woman Lalita Dhrutlahare (36), wife of S Dhritlahare, a resident of Deurjhal village of Nandini, Durg and prevailing circumstances at the spot, the charges of murder and attempt to suicide were established against her and she was remanded to jail from the court on Wednesday. The bodies of children have already been handed over to family members following autopsy while the postmortem reports are still awaited. The police are further investigating the matter to finally ascertain the facts of crime.

It may be recalled that the accused woman Lalita Dhritlahare was perturbed over the habit of her husband S Dhritlahareconsuming alcohol everyday. At about 7:30 pm on Monday after series of argument with him over the same, she had left home along with her children. After leaving home the accused woman Lalita Dhritlahare took the drastic step of throwing her children into welland attempting suicide in a fit of anger by jumping into the same well herself, located at a barren land of Deurjhal village in Nandini, Durg. The accused woman could be saved from drowning but her children Tejeshwar (18 months) and Bhavana (4) had met the watery grave by the time their bodies were fished out.
