100 mins free calling, 1 GB data for 6 months under Sanchar Kranti Yojana

Beneficiaries of Sanchar Kranti Yojana (SKY) will be provided with 100 minutes free calling and 1 GB data free for the first six months from the date they receive the smart phones under the scheme, said Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh in the House while replying to a query of Leader of Opposition T S Singhdeo. The LoP also asked about the number of beneficiaries, criteria for the selection of beneficiaries, time limit, number of towers installed so far in how many panchayats, provision for fund under the scheme and money spent on it as on June 7, 2018.

The Chief Minister replied in the House that funds to the tune of Rs 520 crore has been provisioned for SKY for the financial year 2018-19 and not even a single penny has been spent on mobile and mobile towers as on June 7, 2018. However, mobile towers were installed at 201 panchayats of the state as on June 21, 2018, the Chief Minister said. As far as criteria is concerned, all the rural families of the state will be provided with the smart phones under the scheme as per their socio-economic status 2011 (SECC), poor families of urban areas and all regular college students (first year to final year). Distribution of mobile phones will be completed by 2019, said the Chief Minister.

In reply to another question from MLA Mohan Markam, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh said SKY yojana is operation in the state since August 31, 2017. The Chief Minister said that Centre has not made any budget provision for SKY and the State Government will bear the entire expenses. So far, Rs 1,75,44,736 have been spent under the SKY.
