CAIT holds nationwide protests against Walmart-Flipkart deal

Over 10 lakhs businessmen stood in protest under the banner of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) held nationwide protests including in Raipur against the Walmart-Flipkart deal.
Both offline and online businessmen gathered at 1000 places to express their discontent and called the deal as harmful for the nation’s economy. Biggest protest was held in Delhi along with other major cities like Raipur, Durg-Bhilai, Champa, Tilda, Bhatapara, Manendragarh, Kanker, Mumbai, Nagpur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Jhansi, Surat, Bhopal, Ahmadabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Ranchi, Raurkela, and others.

The Businessmen suggested cancelling of the deal and formation of new e-commerce policy along with e-commerce regulatory authority. CAIT National President BC Bharatiya and National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal termed the deal as a conspiracy of Walmart and Flipkart to establish hegemony in Indian market. Walmart is biggest retailer in the world and when the company will start selling on Indian platform Flipkart at heavy discounts, it will create unfair competition that will harm the interest of Indian businessmen.
Bharatiya and Khandelwal stated that Flipkart has lots of discrepancies such as selling products at prices lower than the cost and signing single agreements with some companies and giving priorities to specific retailers. They demanded probe into the deal of Walmart and Flipkart, in which the latter will hold 77 percent share of the company, hence, it will also be the one at the helms of affairs.In Raipur also, many business organisations members took part in the protests.
