Cops ready for bandobast

With emphasis on CCTV surveillance, armed teams to guard sensitive points

About 2,700 police personnel including eight Superintendent of Police (SP) rank officials from across the State reported at City Police Commissionerate for bandobast duty of ensuing monsoon session of Maharashtra Legislature that will begin in city from July 4.
A senior police officer informed that a total of 6,355 police personnel would be on guard during the monsoon session of Maharashtra State Legislature that gets under way from July 4. Senior police officers have addressed the police staff at Shivaji Stadium at Police Headquarters (HQ) on Monday morning.

A total of 40 sensitive points including Vidhan Bhavan, MLA Hostel, Ravi Bhavan, Nag Bhavan, Ramgiri and morcha points would be covered under the CCTV surveillance. According to list sanctioned by DGP office, additional staff of 10 SP rank officials, 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 70 Police Inspectors (PIs), 10 Women Police Inspectors, 225 APIs/PSIs, 60 WPSIs/WAPI, 1,800 constables, 200 women constables, 2,200 Home Guards besides seven companies of State Reserve Police
Force (SRPF) will be deployed for manning the sensitive points.

Around 300 personnel will be deployed in the civil dress as watchers/spotters. This includes 50 APIs/PSIs, 200 constables, 50 personnel from Anti-Naxal Cell.
DCP (SB) Smartna Patil informed that more than 270 personnel of Traffic Control Branch would be pulled from various police units of the State. Traffic police have requested for five ACPs, 15 PIs, 50 APIs/PSIs and 200 constables.

It may be mentioned that this would be the fourth time that the monsoon session of the State Legislature, normally held in Mumbai, will take place in Nagpur, which has been hosting the Winter Session. Monsoon Sessions were held at Nagpur in 1961, 1966, and 1971. Besides the vehicles available with city police, the cops need 698 vehicles for patrolling, transportation and bandobast duties.

19 morchas and 29 dharnas during Monsoon Session

The police have given permission to 19 organisations to organise morchas during monsoon session while 29 organisations have been allowed to hold agitation.
A police officer informed that morcha by People’s Republican Party (PRP) led by MLA Prof Jogendra Kawade would be taken out on very first day of the session. The morcha will start from Yeshwant Stadium and it would be blocked at Morris College T-point. Maharashta Rajya Kotwal Sanghatna will take out morcha on the same day.

Nivrutta Karmachari Samanvayak Samiti and Police Patil Kalyankari Sangh will also take out morcha on Thursday. Pustak Vikri Kalyankari Sanstha has organised morcha on Friday while Maharashtra Sales and Medical Representative Association (MSMRA), Maharashtra Rajya Kotwal Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti, Police Boys’ Association and Akhil Bharatiya Telangi Samaj Sangharsh Samiti will take out morcha on Saturday.

Zilla Parishad Mahila Paricharaka Mahasangh and Vidarbha Rajya Aghadi have organised morchas on July 11. Kerosene Hawkers Retailers Association have decided to take out morcha on July 16.
