JNAU develops advanced species of rice JR-81

Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) has developed advanced species JR-81 transplantable variety of rice which ripe 15 days early.Vice Chancellor Dr Pradeep Kumar Bisen conducted poojan-archan at field of Bhorvela, Naitonal Seed Project Field to formally dedicate the variety to public. This species would not only ripe 15 days early but also give ample production. The variety would also replace the old variety of rice and will become popular amongst the farmers. For the first time in history of university, Dr Pradeep Bisen inaugurated sowing of Kharif crop thereby inspiring others. Dean of Agriculture Wing Dr P K Mishra, Director Research Services Dr Dherendra Khare, Dean Agriculture University Dr R M Sahu, In-charge Officer And Head Scientist Dr R S Shukla, Dr Manoj Shrivastava, Plant Breeder Dr G K Kautu and others were also present on the occasion.


Head Scientist Dr R S Shukla and plant breeder Dr G K Kautu said that Kharif season is suitable time for sowing rice. The new transplant variety of rice named JR-81 was began with organisation of ritual pooja-archan by Vice Chancellor Dr Pradeep Kumar Bisen according to Indian tradition and planted the first plant. With sowing of rice, Vice Chancellor also inspected other research works in the fields and gave proper guidance and directives to workers and officers. Many employees of JNAU were also present in the pleasant atmosphere. The features of JR-81 are medium cultivation, longer shaped rice which rips within 120 days. The production rate is 50 to 55 quintal per hectare.This variety would replace the old species of crop and will ripe within shorter period with ample production and higher interest.
