Rohit Manaohar Bholani-Hemnani (21), a resident of Sindhi Colony, Khamla, accused in attempt to murder of a teenage girl at Laxmi Nagar area has fled to Mumbai after committing the crime, said Bajaj Nagar Police. Special teams of Bajaj Nagar Police and Crime Branch have also reached Mumbai on Tuesday evening to arrest the accused.
A police officer informed The Hitavada that the accused might have fled Mumbai by Duranto Express after stabbing the girl, Sanika Thugaonkar. He came to the house of Sanika at Plot No. K-1, Saraswati Vinayak Apartment with pre-decided escape plan. It indicates that the act of stabbing was premeditated.

After stabbing Sanika and leaving her in pool of blood and the accused sped away from the spot on a motorcycle, the officer said. Sources informed that a relative of the accused assured the police that he will help the police to apprehend the accused. The relatives have also reached Mumbai on Tuesday and are trying to pursuade the youth to surrender, sources claimed. The relatives would hand-over the accused to the police at Mumbai. According to doctors, Sanika’s condition is very critical.

She is hemodynamically unstable and on ventilator support. Investigators informed that Sanika and Rohit were friends since last two years. Sanika recently started distancing from Rohit which latter could not bear. Sanika was living at her uncle’s (Mama) -- Avinash Patne -- home since childhood. House of Patne family is situated Opposite of Hotel Ashok near Eight Circle, Laxmi Nagar. The family lives on first floor while Avinash’s office is located on ground floor adjacent to SBI ATM.

Accused Rohit came to Patne house at 8 pm and inquired about Sanika. After seeing the youth, Sanika refused to speak with him. However, Avinash and other family members also asked him to leave the house. However, Rohit was not in a mood to relent. When Avinash came to his office where the accused again pleaded and said he just wants to talk with Sanika for five minutes. Avinash’s wife Sarika was also present in the office.

Meanwhile, Sanika came to the office and reluctantly Avinash allowed them to talk even as he kept a hawkish eye on them. After five minutes discussion, when Sanika turned down his advances, the accused, in a fit of rage, whipped out a dagger and stabbed Sanika on chest and back. Avinash also sustained injury on palm while trying to save Sanika. He then sped away from the spot on motorcycle.

Bajaj Nagar police have registered the case under Sections 307, 324 of Indian Penal Code read with Sub-sections 4, 25 of Arms Act and 135 Mumbai Police Act.
