Bhilai prepares to celebrate Lord Jagnnath’s Rath Yatra

The annual ‘Rath Yatra’ of Lord Jagannath is not far away and the preparation for the event has begun in steel city. As the city gears up to celebrate the Rath Yatra on July 16, the Lord’s temple in Sector-6 and Secotr-4 are also being spruced up to welcome more devotees. Elaborate arrangements are in place for commencement of nine-day annual Rath Yatra also known as car festival of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra in the city. Over the year, old tradition of pulling the chariot by Sri Jagannath Mandir Samiti, Sector-4 and Utkal Sanskritik Parishad, Sector-6 from Central Avenue has beeen the main attraction during the occasion.


The colourfully decorated chariot will be pulled by the devotees from the temples to his aunt’s place for annual sojourn. For this the chariots are being prepared and decorated by the Samitis. “This is an opportunity for devotees to see the Lord as he will come out of the temple to give darshan on the streets. Lord Jagannath will also be worshipped at the aunt’s place called Gundicha Temple,” Utkal Sanskritik Praishad member Ranghunandan Panda said. Lord Jagannath will don various avatars during the nine-day festival. The deities will be served various traditional dishes. The prasad will be distributed to the devotees in the evening. Utkal Sanskritik Praishad will celebrate the festival from July 16 to July 26 at the temple complex in Sector-6 near ‘A’ Market. Likewise Jagannath Temple Sector-4 will celebrate the festival at Gundicha Temple, Sector-10 Bhilai.
