CITY’S chess prodigy Divya Deshmukh added one more feather to her cap by winning Under-16 girls category gold medal in the Commonwealth Chess Tournament that concluded in New Delhi on Tuesday.

For the 12 and half years old Divya, this was her third gold in Commonwealth events and the first one in U-16 group. Recently she completed requirements for WIM title and happens to be one of the youngest players in India to achieve this title.

Her performance has earned her a berth in the Olympiad sub-junior team and would be going to Turkey with team of five comprising four boys and one girl. She has now crossed the rating above 2200 and is youngest in India amongst girls. She credits her success to Principal of Bhavan’s Civil Lines Anju Bhutani and coach RB Ramesh.

She has also been selected by All India Chess Federation to play Abu Dhabi Open Chess Tournament in August. She will be representing India in world youth meet to be played in Greece.
