‘WIPO-India Summer School on IP’ inaugurated

WORLD Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Academy, a specialised agency of the United Nations, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management, Nagpur (RGNIIPM) and Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur (MNLUN),are jointly organising the ‘WIPO-India Summer School on Intellectual Property’ (IP) which is underway from July 2 to July 13 at RGNIIPM, Nagpur. The chief guest Hoshiar Singh, Registrar of Copyrights and In-charge of Controller General of Patents, Designs and TradeMarks inaugurated the Summer School.


During the inauguration Joseph M Bradley, Head, Academic Institutions Programme, WIPO Academy, Prof (Dr) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, MNLU, N M Sakharkar, Registrar of MNLU and Pankaj Borkar, Deputy Controller of Patent and Design and Head, RGNIIPM were present. Out of the 61 participants, four are from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Africa, Hungary and remaining 57 from India are participating in the WIPO-India Summer School programme. The programme provides an opportunity to senior students and young professionals to acquire deeper knowledge in the domain of Intellectual Property.


Hoshiar Singh, Registrar of Copyrights and Controller General of Patents, Designs and TradeMarks informed the gathering about the objectives of the national policy in India. He spoke on the continuous nation-wide awareness in IPR and about the speedy disposal of IP applications. Prof (Dr) Vijender Kumar, emphasised the protection of IP, role of RGNIIPM and MNLU for considering Nagpur as an innovation hub. He assured to provide assistance to WIPO for efficient enforcement.


Whereas, Joseph Bradley, Head, WIPO Academy said, “This Summer School will improve the skills of participants and help them to focus on various IP issues”. Further, he stated that the Summer School allows participants to interact with people from all over the world on Intellectual Property issues.Prof (Dr) Naresh Kumar Vats of MNLU proposed the vote of thanks, informs a press release issued here.Pooja Maulikar, Examiner of Patent and Design, RGNIIPM, Dr Raghani Khubalkar, Hinanshu Pande both from MNLU and staff of RGNIIPM and MNLU are taking efforts for the success of the training programme.
