The first intermittent rainfall of monsoon season exposed monsoon preparedness of Bhopal Municipal Corporation as water logging was reported in all low lying areas on Thursday. People have a torrid time in dealing with water logging issue.
It was from mid summer season that that Congress corporator’s were crying hoarse that drains have been not cleaned properly by Bhopal Municipal Corporation and if it rains heavily then water logging would transform into a major problem.

Their apprehension proved correct when Bhopal battled with water logged roads, streets and roads during Thursday’s rainfall. Roads have taken the shape of rivulets and streets got submerged under flowing rainwater.
Moreover, rainwater also reached till doors of houses situated in low lying areas. People were seen trying to prevent rainwater from gushing inside their homes. Had it had rained for some more time then situation could be turned out to be alarming.

Leader of Opposition in Bhopal Municipal Corporation, Mohammad Sageer told to “The Hitavada” that Congress corporator’s repeatedly demanded discussion on cleanliness of city drains but their voice was not heard in General Council Meeting. The focus of entire BMC was on Swachtha Abhiyan which was relegated till washing roads with water and doing the cleanliness. Somewhere cleanliness of drains was ignored in that campaign and now the rains have exposed the situation.

“ Even now also BMC can carry out the cleanliness work of drains so that people should not face water logging problem further. If there is a strong will power then only this work could be done,” he told. Moreover, it was school going children who faced tough time in going to school as they have to wade through the waterlogged streets to reach schools. There were scenes in which school going children were seen carrying their shoes in hands and wading through water logged roads. Rainwater even gushed inside school premises of government school in Cholla area.
