Anti-smoking hoardings to be installed at public places

District-level Coordination Committee on Saturday decided to give momentum to the campaign against tobacco and smoking in the district. The Committee also decided to take action against people using these products at public places and work place. The committee meeting was presided over by Raipur District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Deepak Soni on Saturday.

The CEO said that Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) should be strictly implemented in the district. Public places such as schools, colleges, offices should be closely monitored. People engaged in violation of Act should be punished, said the CEO.

The CEO asked the Raipur Municipal Corporation to install hoardings at public places sending message to the people to stay away from smoking or else it willbe a crime. The advertising board should carry the nameand telephone numbers of the in-charge officials, so that complaint can be registered and action be taken immediately. As per rules, tobacco products and smoking is strictly ban within 100 yard of the educational institutes. The DEO asked the officials for orgaising awareness programmes for making people aware on the issue. Also present in the meeting were ADM Dr Renuka Shrivastav, Additional Collector Q A Khan and Jogendra Nayak, Additional Commissioner Ashish Tikariha, District Medical and Health Officer Dr K S Sandilya, Nodal Officer Dr R K Chandravanshi and Civil Surgeon Dr Tiwari.
