The Hitavada State Bureau,

A family of bears, which fell into a well in the field at village Murdongri, has been successfully rescued by Forest Department on Saturday.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kanker Division J Shriram told The Hitavada that the family comprising of a mother and her two cubs fell into a dry well in the field of one postman Samit Salam on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Villagers reported the Forest Department when they spotted the bears stuck inside the well on Saturday morning. A team of Forest Department was immediately dispatched to the spot.
With an inquisitive crowd outside and an angry mother bear with her two cubs inside the well, Forest staff had to face double whammy in their rescue operation.

Operation could have been over within minutes but it took a lot of efforts to dispel the crowd away from the well. Initially, forest staff thought of waiting till darkness, but they managed to drive away the crowd with persuasion. Once everything was calmed down, staff lowered a staircase inside the well and put some Jamuns (Java Plum) on outside to lure them out. The trick worked and bears climbed out of the well, ate the jamuns and disappeared in the forest by afternoon.
