We have recently started pest control facility in trains to keep insects at bay. Pest control is done in about 12 to 13 trains passing through Bhopal Railway Station. There are a few local trains which are yet to get the facility. Earlier, complaints related to rats, cockroaches and bed bugs were higher but now after pest control, complaints have reduced to a great extent,” informed PRO of Bhopal Railway Station I A Siddique.

WHEN people spend extra bucks in AC coaches of trains they expect better facilities and comfortable journey. However, in some cases it was found that there were special guests to welcome AC passengers. The passengers were welcomed by cockroaches and sometimes rats. “It was a hell-like experience and the bites of bed bugs,” recall members of Badvelkar family. Bed bugs left rashes on their skin and even developed boils on hands of Prateek Badvelkar’s five-year-old daughter. They were left with no option but to seek some place on co-passenger’s seat. Earlier, Badvelkar family reported the matter to TTE but to he paid no heed.

“As soon as we took our seats, we felt mosquito bites. But on checking we found that body had developed red rashes due to bed bugs. Fed up of bed bugs, we decided to leave our seats and asked co-passengers to share some space on their seat,” said Prateek. He further said that later he filed a complaint with the TTE and other running staff of the train. Another passenger Rohit said, “We were travelling in AC-2 coach of 01706 Jabalpur-Bandra special train last week but the entire journey was so painful and was a horrifying experience. Rats made holes in our bags and clothes. My younger daughter was bit by a rat when she was fast asleep. As we were not aware of complaint procedure, we tweeted the incident to railway officials but there were no reply.”

Rohit further said rats were freely roaming inside the coach and all passengers were trying to save themselves from rat menace. Fearing damage to their belongings, a few passengers preferred to keep their luggage on seats. But to their utter surprise, rats climbed the seats and damaged the stuff. The rodents were looking fro food and they got it in abundance and it seems they partied all night. He said the Railways should properly maintain the coaches as passengers book tickets hoping for a hassle-free and convenient journey. “We have recently started pest control facility in trains to keep insects at bay.
