A Left Wing Extremist, who recently surrendered before the Dantewada police, was brutally killed by a group of ultras on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Podiya alias Gandhi Badde, a resident of Cholnar Junapara under Kirandul police station limits. Earlier, he had been active as Jan Militia member under Malangir Area Committee of the banned outfit for the past many years. Besides, he was also involved in the incident of Cholnar blast which claimed lives of seven security personnel on May 20, 2018.

Being impressed with the Chhattisgarh Government’s rehabilitation policy for the surrendered outlaws, he had given in at Kirandul police station in presence of Dantewada SP Dr Abhishek Pallava and Kirandul SDO (P) Dhirendra Patel on last Sunday. While talking to The Hitavada over phone, Additional Superintendent of Police G N Baghel informed this afternoon that the surrendered Naxal Podiya had gone to meet his son at his native place. Meanwhile, a group of ultras stormed his residence and killed him by strangulating his throat with a rope late Tuesday night. “The body has been recovered. The postmortem is likely to be performed. Further investigations are in process”, confirmed the ASP.
