Crime Branch sleuths arrested a youth on charges of theft from Subhas Chowk here on Wednesday and seized valuable goods from his house.


The youth was identified as Darvesh (20), a resident of Subhas Chowk, Motipur. As per police sources, on August 21, victim Deepak Chauhan, a resident of Motipur, lodged a complaint at Chikli police station that an unidentified thief had broken into his house and decamped with valuable goods and cash worth Rs 30,000.


Based on the report, the sleuths started investigating the matter. The team received a tip-off about a youth who was seen spending money excessively to his known source of earning and his actions were suspicious. The team immediately took the youth under custody and interrogated him. Upon strict grilling, the youth spilled the beans. He confessed to his crime and informed police that he had broken into the house of Deepak Chauhan and also added that he has spent the cash and hidden the jewellery in his house.


The crime branch seized jewellery from the house which includes one gold chain, mangalsutra, two pieces of earrings, one gold ring and three pairs of silver anklets. The police arrested the accused under relevant sections of IPC and he has been sent under judicial remand.
