Five killed, 7 injured as bus rams into stationary truck

FIVE people were killed and seven injured critically after a private passenger bus rammed into a truck parked on roadside near village Bariyon under Rajpur police station limits. The accident occurred in the wee hours of Thursday.


The deceased have been identified as Rajnikant Sharma (27), Mithilesh Sharma (40), Abhishek Tiwari (25) and Kamrul Hasan (65). All four were residents of neighbouring state Bihar. Body of one of the deceased is yet to be identified.


As per sources, the incident occurred nearly at 5 am when a passenger bus of Rajhans Travels was coming towards Ambikapur from Bihar. As bus reached NH-343, the driver dozed and lost his balance after which the bus rammed into a truck which was parked on roadside near Bariyon village leaving four dead on the spot and seven sustained grievous injuries.


Hearing scream of the passengers, the local villagers immediately reached the spot and informed the incident to Bariyon outpost and Rajpur police officials. Later, the injured passengers were rushed to local hospital from where they were referred to Ambikapur Medical College. While undergoing treatment, one more passenger succumbs in the hospital who is yet to be identified. MLA Dr Preetam Ram also visited the hospital and enquired about condition of the injured passengers. Doctors informed that passengers identified as Lalan Singh Yadav, Mohammad Shahid, Mehboob Ansari, Rajesh Yadav, Govind and Manohar were brought to the hospital where condition of Mohammad Shahid is still critical whereas condition of rest five injured passengers is stable. Police have registered a case under relevant sections.
