25,000 students expected to take part in VVM Competition

In continuation to 2017, Vijnana Bharti (VIBHA), a science movement led by eminent scientists, is organising Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) 2018-19 – the national science talent search through digital devices for the school going children from Class VI to XI. Around 25,000 participants in junior and senior groups of the competition are expected from Chhattisgarh, said the VVM coordinators Dr P L Choudhary, Dr Hemant Pandey, state coordinators Santosh Dubey and Gaurav Verma in a press conference on Wednesday.

VIBHA jointly in association with Vigyan Prasar (VP) – an autonomous organisation under Department of Science and Technology (DST) and National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) of MHRD will undertake this competition.

The syllabus for the competition to assess the students in phase-I are Science and Mathematics (50%) of NCERT Syllabus of respective classes, India’s Contribution to Science (20%, specially designed reading material published by VIBHA), Biography of Srinivasa Ramanujan and Dr Meghnath Saha (20%) and Logic and Reasoning (10%). The VVM study material will be made available to all students on the website from August 30, 2018. The examination will be conducted for two sessions, junior classes (VI to VIII) and senior classes (IX-XI). However, for the evaluation purpose, students from respective classes will be compared separately.

Students can register themselves through their respective schools. The schools’ login will be created and then school can register as many number students as they want till September 30, 2018 (without late fee) and October 15, 2018 (with late fee). One of the magnificent facilities is that school can append the list and rectify the corrections if any till the last date. Once the students are registered, student will have his or her login Id through their registered devices which they can change till the 48 hours before examination if they wish to chance the device.

The registered students will start getting notifications about the examination on their registered mobile devices for the latest release of app as well as latest information VVM. All the students will be able to sit through series of mock examinations from October 15 to November 20.
The students will have to appear for examination from their registered school on the day of examination i e November 25 or November 28.

Only one school level examination will be conducted nationwide on November 25 or 28 from 11 am to 1 pm. At first level, top three rankers per class per school will be declared (provided 10 students from each class have appeared in competition); in second level top three rankers per class per district will be declared from the schools registered from that district. VVM is a platform to inculcate and generate interest in science, foster excellence in students and nurture and mentor them for their careers in pure sciences. Selected students will undergo multilevel testing and successful students will get a chance to interact with renowned scientists of the country. The details regarding VVM can be accessed on www.vvm.org.in. Students can use their Android phones, tablets and laptop for online examination.

Rankers will have a chance to interact with renowned scientists: The rankers in the VVM competition will receive the certificate of merit for their achievement. For the state level winners, a special one or two day state camp will be conducted for top 20 rankers per class, i.e. for 120 students from that state. During the state level camp, these students will undergo the various evaluation processes like skill test, creative writing, experimental skill etc. Top three rankers per class per class will be selected as state level winners and they will be rewarded with cash prizes, memento and certificates. For the national level winners, the national camp with the only two top ranker per class per state will be invited for two day camp. Yet another multilevel screening will be conducted; testing like, presentation, leadership qualities, creative thinking, innovative learning etc. Finally, top three rankers per class will be selected through comparative evaluation per class. These students will be named Himalayans. At national level, in addition to the national level winners, zone level winners will be declared through similar process. The national level winners will receive the cash prizes, memento and certificates.
