The benches which are meant for people waiting for their bus to arrive are broken at several places. The walls at most of the places are red with spitting. Drinking water area is muddy and full of stench due to persistent leakages. Clogged drains have also given rise to foul smell which has added to the problems of daily commuters. Water logging at various spots not only serve as breeding ground for mosquitoes but also the source of the thick stench making it impossible for commuters to wait inside the premises

Cleanliness is one thing about which authorities have been going gung ho for a long time now. Inspections and cleanliness drives are conducted but they seem to fetch little result in the longer run. Despite repetitive inspections and many new plans to maintain ISBT from where many passengers travel every day the situation does not seem to be improved even a bit. The issue of cleanliness is still persisting at ISBT despite orders being issued several times and inspection carried out in the premises to improve situation. The filth littered at bus stop and the stinky water logging has become a major problem for commuters, who are forced to deal with these problems on daily basis. Garbage can be seen lying around openly and the stench of clogged water and litter has made it a herculean task for people to stand or sit there while waiting for their bus.

The dirty surroundings at ISBT are a tell tale of how instructions are issued and no implementation follows. Garbage is littered around the premises at many spots. Water leakages have made the situation worst and foul stench rising from the area makes it hard for commuters to wait for buses and stay inside the premises. Garbage can be seen littered around dustbins which can be seen full most of the times. The inspection of ISBT is done time and again by officials and directions are issued to maintain facilities and cleanliness in the premises but all these directions remain only on paper and the current condition of ISBT speaks volumes regarding the actions, which were to be taken but nothing has been done so far. The problems of filthy surroundings, drinking water, toilet, broken benches etc are problems that need to be addressed. Commuters face these problems on daily basis which have not been solved yet.

The benches which are meant for people waiting for their bus to arrive are broken at several places. The walls at most of the places are red with spitting. Drinking water area is muddy and full of stench due to persistent leakages. Clogged drains have also given rise to foul smell, which has added to the problems of daily commuters. Water logging in various spots not only serve as breeding ground for mosquitoes but also the source of the thick stench making it impossible for commuters to wait inside the premises. Geeta Sharma, a commuter, who travels frequently said, “The drinking water area is infested with algae and dirty taps defying the directions issued to maintain the basic facilities. The stench of rotting food and stagnant water is terrible and it fills the entire premises. Garbage spills from dustbins as they get full and water leakages make the situation unbearable. Officials should get the leakages fixed and become really strict towards maintenance of cleanliness and fine those who litter inside the premises.” All these conditions make travelling an awful experience for commuters. It is to be noted that cleanliness drive was organised inside the ISBT premises few weeks back.

Director of Bhopal City Link Limited, Kewal Mishra said, “We do maintenance in the premises from time to time but unsocial elements create problems and damage the property. Cleanliness drives are also organised to sensitise people. We will look into the issues and problems further and resolve them as soon as possible.”
