Lightning mishap leaves operations at airport suspended

Hit by lightning, Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur had to close down its operations from Friday evening. The air traffic has been suspended and is expected to resume from 12 noon on Saturday. Talking to the The Hitavada, R S Sahay, Airport Director, Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur said that due to lightning over Doppler Very High Frequency Air (DVOR) at Raipur, DVOR is unserviceable now. The Communication Navigation Surveillance team (CNS) is checking and subsequently repairing the damage. Due to the incident, the Airport has taken NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) taken till 12 noon tomorrow. The closure of airport has affected arrivals of three flights which have been diverted. Accordingly, the Indigo 466 Hyderabad-Raipur, Indigo 2912 Delhi-Raipur and Jet Airways 967 Mumbai-Raipur have been diverted to Nagpur while one Jet Airways 679 Delhi-Raipur have been grounded at New Delhi.

Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, who was due to arrive by Jet Airways 679 Delhi-Raipur, along with Principal Secretary Aman Kumar Singh, Secretary Subodh Kumar Singh, Special Secretary Rajat Kumar and Advisor to Chief Minister Vikram Sisodia and other passengers who were due to Raipur through this flight were informed about the mishap at New Delhi airport and the flight was grounded.
Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi, who was due to visit New Delhi but on reaching Swami Vivekananda Airport, he was informed about the mishap and cancellation of operations and Justice Tripathi had to return back to the Capital.

Similarly, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda also got stranded at Raipur due to cancellation of flight. The Union Health Minister was on a transit visit to Raipur and was due to take an evening flight to New Delhi.

Nadda had reached Raipur on a transit visit to Balangir in Odisha for inaugurating a medical college. Since he reached early to Raipur from Balangir, he went to Kushabhau Thakre Parisar, the BJP state head-quarters for taking rest. However, after getting information that his flight has been cancelled, he got stranded in Raipur and will leave tomorrow after the airport resumes operations.
AICC Chhattisgarh In charge P L Puniya who was arriving Raipur by Indigo 2912 Delhi-Raipur flight but since the flight was diverted to Nagpur, he will now reach Raipur either by road or by rail from Nagpur. Puniya was coming to Raipur for a significant meeting.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Alka Lamba, who was in Raipur to attend an important meeting of AAP, was also due for New Delhi by an evening flight, but she also got stranded in Raipur due to the incident.
