MP Sailor Harshita Tomar wins bronze in Asian Games

ANOTHER ‘Beti’ of Madhya Pradesh has brought laurels to the nation and the State and has made everyone proud with her sincere efforts. MP sailor Harshita Tomar clinched bronze medal in Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. Tomar won bronze medal in Open Laser 4.7 event.

Earlier, archer Muskan Kirar made the State proud by winning silver in Asian Games. Promising sailing player from Hoshangabad, Harshita Tomar (16) won bronze medal in personal category. Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia expressed happiness on success of Harshita Tomar.

“Harshita Tomar overshadowed men in Asian Games and won first personal category medal. This is just the beginning. Future of sports and budding players is in hands of best trainers,” said Yashodhara Raje Scindia. Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Dr S L Thousen also congratulated Harshita Tomar on her success. Notably, way back in 2013 the Sports Department noticed hidden talent of Harshita Tomar and selected her for National Sailing School. She learned various skills under the guidance of Water Sports Academy’s Technical Advisor and Chief Trainer G L Yadav.
Career of Harshita Tomar is shinning with several medals and achievements. So far, she has won three gold medals and one bronze in various international competitions. She had won gold in Laser 4.7 event organised under aegis of Sailing Championship in Dubai in 2017. She also won gold medal in India International Regatta held in Chennai in 2015. She has won gold medal in India International Regatta Championship held in Chennai in 2015. Harshita Tomar also won bronze medal in Asian Optimistic Sailing Championship held in Doha in 2015. Hitherto, she has participated in six international events. For her glittering performance, she was felicitated with Best Woman Sailor Award.
