MSRTC should strive for starting e-bus service: Fadnavis

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to provide better and more facilities to the passengers, ensure to attract more passengers and also suggested them to have modern facilities at bus stands. He also said that the corporation should strive to start e-buses on Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Nashik and for the destinations up to 300 km.

Chief Minister was speaking at a meeting organised to review various projects related to Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and its modernisation. Transport Minister Diwakar Raote and Managing Director of ST Corporation Ranjit Singh Deol, heads of various departments of the corporation and officers were present on the occasion.

Fadnavis further said, Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Nashik and places that are about 300 km distance, should be connected with electric bus transport and all out efforts are required for this. He also said that if various Municipal corporations and ST department takes initiation, such buses can be manufactured in Maharashtra itself. He said that the makers of such buses had also given a nod for the same. If the demand surges, these buses can be procured at reasonable price.

Chief Minister also said, the old buses can be converted to goods carrying truck and this can also get good response. He said that better facilities should be made available at the bus stand so that the passengers will be attracted toward the service of ST Corporation. He said as such, all efforts should be taken for modernising and providing better facilities at the bus stations.

CM also said that the Smart Card project, National mobility service should be connected to integrated system implemented in Mumbai so that the passengers travelling in the entire state can use such cards anywhere. He said that for this the MMRDA and the responsible departments should co-ordinate and take initiation. Chief Minister further said that on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, efforts should be taken to start bus stand and bus services in Sevagram of Wardha district.

Transport Minister Diwakar Raote while appreciating vision of Chief Minister, Finance and planning Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, said, the corporation has been provided with sufficient resources and infrastructure and it is not going to face any financial crunch. He said, the MSRTC is ‘passenger oriented’ and with better security provisions, is moving towards modernisation. MSRTC MD Deol in his address informed about the recent changes in the ST Corporation. He also spoke on financial condition and modernisation of Bus stands, changing nature of buses and also informed about the facilities and progress of Mor Bhavan, Ganesh Peth, Parbhani, Chiplun, Chandrapur, Wardha and other places. Directors of various departments of the corporation Madhav Kale, Rajendra Jawanjal, RR Patil, Ashok Kalnikar, Ram Manohar Pawnikar, Labour Officer Pratap Pawar, chief security officer Manoj Lohiya also were present.
