Markets, petrol pumps remained closed on Monday

Congress call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ proved effective in State capital as all major markets and petrol pumps remained closed on Monday. Congress leaders and workers went to markets of their respective areas, urging shopkeepers to co-operate in ‘Bharat Bandh’ call given by Rahul Gandhi against spiralling prices of petrol and diesel.It was from morning hours onwards that workers and leaders of Congress started to march in markets and local areas to ensure that shopkeepers keeps their shutters down in support of Bandh. Sporadic shops were opened during morning hours but Congress leaders and workers requested shop keepers to close their shops in support of the Bandh.


Congress leaders including MLA Arif Aqueel, Nasir Islam, Arif Masood, ex-MLA P C Sharma, District Congress President Kailash Mishra etc hit the roads of their areas and ensured that all business establishments remain closed.


Almost all major markets of city, including New Market, five number stop, six number stop, Chawk Bazaar, Lakerapura, Royal Market etc, remained closed. They wore deserted look as their lanes were empty and only a few people were seen roaming there.


In the meantime, police remained on toes and cops visited all the public places and markets to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during Bharat Bandh call of Congress.


However, red buses were running on road and due to this reason, public transport facility was not affected. In the meantime, some schools remained closed in the wake of Bandh call of Congress. Even there were a few schools, whose buses remained off the road during noon hours and hence parents have to go to pick up their children after school get closed. Even as most of the schools remained opened, but many parents preferred not to send their children to school, fearing that any untoward incident can take place during Bharat Bandh in city. But Bharat Bandh of Congress passed off in a peaceful manner. In the meantime, seeing an overwhelming response to Bharat Bandh call given by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh thanked businessmen and people for co-operating during Bandh. Singh said that prices of petrol and diesel have touched an all-time high.
