Marbat-Badgya procession highlights pressing issues

Thousands of people watched Marbat-Badgya procession being taken out traditionally for the last 133 years in the city on second day of Pola festival on Monday. It is the exclusive feature of city in the entire country.


The Badgyas highlighted the issues like PNB scam, Ram Kadam’s foul speech hurting women’s dignity, rising prices of petrol, diesel, gas cylinders, formation of separate State of Vidarbha, flushing out Bangladeshis, OWC, SNDL, recovering amount from corrupt NMC officers, etc. In all 21 Badgyas and 11 Marbats were taken out by different organisations. The workers raised slogans like ‘Ida Pida Gheun Ja Ge Marbat’.


This time, Gender Equaility Organisation introduced a new marbat called ‘Bhuri’ Marbat, on the issue of misuse of various gender biased laws causing distress to men suffering from atrocities by women and committing suicide. The organisation introduced this Marbat with a hope that the misuse of laws and legal terrorism should end in the society and achieving welfare of women. This Marbat was the star attraction for the watchers en route.


As usual, the famous ‘Kali’ and ‘Pili’ Marbats were taken out from Itwara Bardana Market and Jagnath Budhwari amid crowd and workers dancing, beating drums, garlanding dancers, sprinkling ‘gulal’, etc. Both the Marbats embraced each other at Nehru Putla, Itwari, and then started for further journey. Then the procession passed from Marwadi Chowk, Amardeep Cinema, Shahid Chowk, Gandhi Statue, Badkas Chowk, Mahal Kotwali, Gandhi Gate, Chitnis Park, Agrasen Chowk, Ganjakhet Chowk, Golibar Chowk, Bharat Mata Chowk, Pili Marbart Chowk, Tanda Peth and Naik Talao. The workers burnt ‘Pili’ Marbrat at Naik Talao and ‘Kali’ Marbat near Harihar Mandir in the evening. The first Badgya to arrive at Badkas Chowk at 1.40 pm was that of Vidarbha Kranti Dal on separate Vidarbha State and Halba Bachao issues. Bal Mitra Badgya Utsava Samiti, Sarvajanik Badgya Utsava Samiti, Bal Vidyarthi Badgya Utsava Mandal, Sangram Badgya Utsava Mandal, Shiv Shakti Badgya Utsava Mandal, Yuwa Shakti Mandal and other organistions had put up their Badgyas exposing issued of public concern. Dipraj Pardikar, Deputy Mayor, also put up one Badgya on behelf of BJP.


This year, three camels also joined the procession. Petal were fired from an artificial small cannons at the statue of Bachhraj Vyas. The procession passed off from Badkas Chowk in one hour. People lined up on either side of the route to get a view of the procession. Many also watched it from their balconies. Meanwhile, a proper police bandobast was made for smooth flow of the procession.
