One killed in road accident; villagers stage chakkajam

A man was killed and another injured in a road accident near Bajrang Power Plant, Tandawa, here on Sunday afternoon. Neora police have registered the case and are investigating the matter.

Enraged with the incident, villagers staged chakkajam for hours with the body of the deceased. In the evening, villagers removed the body on the persuasion of Tehsildar. According to the report, Shivkumar Gaikwad (26), a resident of Meharsakha (Dharsiwa) and Vijay Banchhor (21) were going towards their village Meharsakha from Tilda on their bike (CG-04HL-1603).

Meanwhile, an unidentified vehicle coming from Kirna side hit bike hard near Tandawa village, in which Shivkumar died on the spot and Vijay got his leg fractured.

The injured Vijay was rushed to Community Health Centre, Tilda. Irked over the incident, the nearby villagers staged chakkajam with the body.

On getting information, Neora and police station in-charge R K Mishra reached the spot along with additional police force. Villagers demanding compensation were staging chakkajam. In the evening, Tehsildar R K Maheshwari reached the spot and persuaded the family members of the deceased to end the chakkajam and remove the body. On the assurance of Tehsildar that the compensation would be given within three days, then the villagers decided to end the chakkajam and lifted the body. Neora police have launched manhunt to nab the driver of an identified vehicle.It is to be mentioned that in this area, accident often takes place. Thousands of vehicles run here speedily, therefore, road accidents often occur.
