Traffic cops’ ‘Surgical Strike’ on underage riders from today

Cops to observe ‘Zero tolerance policing’

Traffic Control Branch is all set to launch ‘operation surgical strike’ over next three days at 12 prominent squares in city from Tuesday onwards. Under the operation, the police would not allow any violation of Motor Vehicles Act and enforce ‘Zero Tolerance Policing’.


The operation will be conducted at Law College Square, Variety Square, Old Katol Naka Square, LIC Square, Wadi T-point, Shankar Nagar Square, Tukadoji Putala Square, Manewada Square, Ashok Chowk, Agrasen Chowk, Kadbi Chowk and Indora Chowk. A posse of traffic police would be deployed at all corners of these squares. The police will keep watch on every rule violators and take pictures of violators to issue e-challans. Around 200 school students will also participate in the drive and spread message about importance of following rules of Motor Vehicles Act.


The drive is aimed at sensitising people about rules. Basic idea behind the special drive is to instill respect for law and at same time to make citizens aware about consequences of violations of provisions of Motor Vehicles Act. DCP (Traffic Control Branch) Raj Tilak Roshan has asked ground staff to handle the enforcement in proper manner to ensure right message goes across.


Around 1,500 persons were killed in road accidents in Nagpur city between 2012 and 2017. Almost one lakh persons were caught for driving vehicles under influence of liquor during the last five years. In Maharashtra, a total of 12,264 deaths in 35,853 road accidents were reported in year 2017. Total 20,465 people were injured in these mishaps.
