“Bharatiya Janata Party-led State Government is violating Section 65 of the Electricity Act-2003 by waiving off electricity bills of defaulter consumers. The State Government is trying to allure innocent consumers to secure its vote bank during the election year. Distribution of electricity bills exemption certificates is an illegal act of the State Government and Congress leaders are going to file a case of forgery against Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Secretary, Basant Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary (Electricity), I C P Keshri and Energy Minister, Paras Chand Jain,” charged Saurabh Sharma, Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, while addressing a press conference, on Tuesday.
Addressing the press conference, Advocate Manish Verma informed that, according to Section 65 of the Electricity Act-2003, it has been clearly mentioned that if any state government provides assistance under Section 62 in electricity tariff of the state electricity regulatory commission, it needs to deposit the same amount with the Electricity Department in advance. He quoted the lines of the Electricity Act-2003, ‘Provided that no such direction of the state government shall be operative if the payment is not made in accordance with the provisions contained in this section.’

Congress, City President, Dinesh Yadav informed that the State Government has failed in paying the amount of Rs 5,179 crore to the power companies before waiving off the electricity dues of defaulter consumers even after three months of starting Bijli Bill Mafi Yojana.

Saurabh Sharma further informed that they had given a written complaint at Omti police station to register a case under Section 420, 406, 120-B, Subsection 34 and Section 35 of the Electricity Act-2003, but police are yet to register FIR. Congress leaders have decided to file a petition against the State Government for protecting innocent consumers from phony tale of the BJP Government.
