Vidarbha Defence Industry Hub will be game changer: COSIA

Chamber of Small Industry Associations (COSIA), Vidarbha Chapter, convened a closed group interactive meeting of office-bearers of Vidarbha Defence Industries Associations (VDIA) and MSMEs in Nagpur.


The topic of discussions was ‘Role of MSMEs in developing Defence hub in Vidarbha. Lt. Gen. Ravindra Thodge, Chairman of VDIA, Major General Anil Bam of Defence Procurement Assistance Centre (DPAC) Dushyant Deshpande (Director), attended the meeting representing. Prominent industrialists representing MSME sector were J F Salve from Solar Group, Sagar Agrawal and Avinash Deshpande from Sandip Metal Craft, R P Paranjape, Anuja Sharma and Sushil Sharma from Indian Institute of Foundry, Prakash Agrawal from Vidarbha Plastics Associations and Vaibhav Agrawal from R C Plasto Pvt Ltd., Narayan Gupta, Ramesh Patel and Nagraj Reddy from Nagpur Auto Engg. Cluster, and Amar Vazalwar Founder of SAARTHI, COSIA members Chander Khosla, D N Gupta, R K Chokhani and Sunil Jejani.


In his introductory remarks, Mayank Shukla, Chairman of COSIA, Vidarbha Chapter, said, “Vidarbha Defence Industries Hub (VDIH) which has been established by VDIA will be stepping stone in the industrial development of Vidarbha. It will be a game changer. The enthusiastic and dedicated leaders are leaving no store unturned to see that a VDIH is established in a stipulated time period. The proactive supports of present State Government to this project will boost its pace of development, and thereby create tremendous scope for industries in MSME sector.” In order to explore these opportunities, COSIA, Vidarbha Chapter has convened the meeting, which a first step towards bringing VDIA and MSMEs on one platform. This is a close group meeting with the representatives of prominent industrialists and their cluster groups in various fields of MSME sector and VDIA officers..


Lt. Gen Ravindra Thodge gave an detailed presentation on VDIH project, planning and time-bound execution programme. The power point presentation was keenly listened and understood by members present.


Lt. Gen. Thodge said that VDIA had signed a MoU with Tata Technology to establish Vidarbha Defence Industries Hub at Nagpur on PPP mode which envisage an investment of about Rs 217 crore. “The required funding will be supported by State Government, private investors and Tata Technologies themselves have invested 66 crore from their CSR funds. This Hub will have a Skill Development Centre to making 50,000 skilled youths in a year, and almost 50 per cent will be absorbed by local industries engaged in aviation component manufacturing sector,” he said.


Others will have a tremendous scope globally to fulfill the requirement of aviation component manufacturing sector. The other part of this Hub is establishing a ‘Common Facility Centre’ to support the manufacturers engaged in catering the requirement of Aerospace Park which is coming up with an investment of Rs 6500 corer in MIHAN by Reliance Group. Lt.Gen. Thodge said State Government had already allocated 20 acres of land to establish the Vidarbha Defence Industries Hub.


He called upon the local industrialists to grab the unique opportunity which will never come to their door step again.
J F Salve also shared his experience and supported the speaker’s version of proactive role of present State Government.


Sagar Agrawal Sandeep Darvekar Secretary of Electronic Zone Association also participated actively in the interaction. Earlier, Shukla felicitated Lt. General Ravindra Thodge for his exemplary service and dedication in establishing Vidarbha Defence Industries Hub in the region. The other office- bearers of VDIA Dushyant Deshpande and Major General Anil Bam were also welcomed. S M Patwardhan conducted the proceeding and D N Gupta summed up the programme.
