The Hitavada State Bureau,

Janjgir/Raipur,

A team from Investigation Wing of Income Tax Department in Raipur is now camping in Naila area of Janjgir-Champa district. For the reasons, a team of Naila Police Outpost seized 38 bags containing silver as well  as half kilogram gold, from two cars being driven by a Raipur-based Sarafa traders Sunil Jain and one other on late Tuesday evening.
The valuables had to be seized after the duo failed to produce any valid receipt for transporting such a huge quantity of silver and gold by road.

“Under Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), the local police informed the superiors, who later intimated the Income Tax Department in Raipur, about the seizure of valuables done from the cars near Naila Level-Crossing during a random checking. The Sarafa trader Sunil Jain tried to befool the intercepting police asserting that he was a petty jeweller and often do his business on wheels while moving from one village to another. The explanation was not worth acceptance and henceforth, the valuables seized,” police spokesperson Jitendra Chandrakar told the mediapersons. Talking to The Hitavada, Alok Johri, Principal Director (Investigation, Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh) admitted that the department has sent a team of taxmen led by a senior official to Janjgir-Champa district to take up the investigation into the seizure of valuables in such a massive quantity, as reported by the police. He, however, refused to divulge the name of the official leading the team.

Meanwhile, other sources in Income Tax Department averred that the investigation failed to take-off since they could not weigh the seized valuables. “The tax sleuths may grill the Sarafa traders on Thursday to ascertain the source of valuables and also weigh the valuables. Once the source is traced, the Income Tax Department may come up with some major disclosure,” they added.
