Staff Reporter,

A WOMAN doctor at Government Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) attempted suicide by slitting her throat with a surgical blade in her hostel room Thursday morning.
A native of Beed, Dr Ashwini Mayur Shinde (26) has been admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the same hospital.
A post-graduate student, Dr Ashwini was pursuing Diploma in Oto Rhinolaryngology (DORL) course. She was staying in MARD Hostel. She was sharing the hostel room with Dr Shruti Tagde and one more student.

On Thursday morning, Dr Ashwini did not go to the college for attending lectures. Around 10.30 am, her roommate Dr Shruti returned to the hostel to find out as to why Dr Ashwini was not attending lectures. She knocked the door of her room repeatedly but there was no response from inside. Dr Shruti peeped through the window and was shocked to find blood oozing out from Dr Ashwini’s neck. She raised an alarm. Immediately, security guards came and forced open the door. They rushed Dr Ashwini to the ICU. Staff from Ajni Police Station, led by Senior Inspector Shailesh Sankhe, visited the GMC&H on being informed. Cops also visited the hostel room and started investigation.

Inspector Sankhe told ‘The Hitavada’ that Dr Ashwini is married. Her husband is pursuing post-graduate diploma course in paediatrics in Solapur, he added.
No suicide note was found in her hostel room, he said. Police and college authorities informed her family about the incident, Inspector Sankhe said, adding that the reason behind Dr Ashwini attempting suicide could not be known so far.
