CG to celebrate 150th birth anniv of Mahatma Gandhi

The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi will be celebrated in Chhattisgarh for 2 years commencing from October 2, 2018 till October 2, 2020, during which, functions will be organised centered on Gandhian ideology and principles.

The decision was taken during the meeting of State-level Committee constituted to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, chaired by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh at Matralaya. Chairing the meeting the Chief Minister said programmes based on Mahatma Gandhi will be organised on October 2, 2018 at the state, district and village-level in schools and colleges. He directed the officials to ensure maximum participation of people from different walks of life in such programmes.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to constitute committees at district level under respective district Collectors, which would oversee the functions to be held in districts during these two years of celebration. These district committees should consist of Member of Parliament, MLAs, public representatives and people working in social sectors as Members. He also directed to prepare time-bound programme for the functions to be held both at the state and district level.

The Chief Minister said Swachchta and cleanliness should be a significant part of our daily routine, hence on October 2, programmes related to Swachchta and cleanliness should be held with active participation from people residing in villages as well as in colonies in urban areas. In schools and colleges competitions like essay-writing, debate and quiz should be conducted.

During the period of birth anniversary celebrations, national level programmes will also be organised in the state. The Chhattisgarh government has decided to award any person or institute/organisation working on the principles of Gandhiji at the National level and every year this coveted Award will be given either to a person or any institute/organization.

Present during the meeting were Panchayat Minister Ajay Chandrakar, Tourism Minister Dayaldas Baghel, Food Minister Punnulal Mohle, Chief Secretary Ajay Singh, ACS duo R P Mandal and Sunil Kujur, Principal Secretary Aman Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary Amitabh Jain and other senior officials. Also present at the meeting were Padmashri Dr Mahadev Prasad Pandey, Dr Pukhraj Bafna, Teejan Bai, Shamshad Begum, Saba Anjum, Dharampal Saini, Arun Sharma, Damodar Ganesh Bapat, G S D Swamy, Anuj Sharma, Swami Satyarupanand, Mamta Chandrakar, Dr Ramendranath Mishra, amongst others.

Panchayat and Rural Development department has been appointed as the nodal department for the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi.
