AT A press conference organised on Friday, Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) Chairman Tapan Bhowmick, said that the Minto Hall has been developed as International Convention Centre and its inauguration will be done by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on October 1 at 6 pm. Madhya Pradesh Tourism has been awarded 10 National Awards this year as last year which showcase that the persistent efforts are brining worthwhile results.

In the history of Bhopal, the Begum Nawabs played very important roles in the development of the city. While the 3rd Begum Nawab (Shahjehan Begum) introduced beautiful buildings with rich architecture and decorations, like Taj-ul-Masjid and Taj Mahal Palace. The fourth and the last Begum Nawab–Sultan Jehan conceived another beautiful building Minto Hall to felicitate Lord Minto, then Viceroy of India.

While on a visit to England to attend the coronation of King George V, she got the inspiration for the style and architecture for Minto Hall. The design of the building was the synthesis of Imperial and Nawabi styles. The impression of the Crown of King George V are seen in the shape of Minto Hall, which has eight decorative towers, constructed in local red stone, and verandahs running all around, decorated with Doric and Corinthian columns, decorative cornices and balusters. The interiors were adorned with rich Nawabi floral decorations on the walls and ceilings.

After the independence of India and formation of the State of Madhya Pradesh, Minto Hall, became a natural choice for Assembly Hall for MP State Government due to the fact that it had the biggest column less hall. In 1996 a new Assembly Hall was constructed on Arera Hills and Minto Hall was vacated. Since then, it lay without any use and thus kept deteriorating.

In 2014, it was handed over to MP State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) to be developed as an International Convention Centre The restoration and renovation work at site was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on June 15, 2016 and now the building has been renovated for use as an International Convention Centre.
