First phase of Narmada-Malwa-Gambhir Link Project dedicated at Depalpur

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan dedicated the first phase of the ambitious Narmada-Malwa-Gambhir Link Project of Malwa region at Depalpur of Indore district on Thursday. The project will create an irrigation command area of 50,775 hectare in Indore and Ujjain district.

Lok Sabha Speaker Mahajan while addressing the Krishak Samvad programme organised on the occasion of dedication function said that the dreams of the Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee are being realised by the state government in Madhya Pradesh. The river linking campaign is a part of the Atal Ji’s dreams. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has taken steps forward for the prosperity of the state by realising the dreams of Atal Ji.

CM Chouhan said that Madhya Pradesh will be made poverty free State. The Mukhya Mantri Jan-Kalyan (Sambal) Yojana is being implemented at the war footing in order to realise this goal. This schemes will bring prosperity in life of poor families of all sections of the society without any discrimination. He informed that work on Narmada-Parvati and Narmada-Kalisindh project is being started now for the prosperity of Malwa region. He further informed farmers that soybean will not be sold less than Rs 3,400 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh at any cost.

Members of Legislative Assembly Manoj Patel and Ramesh Mendola, President of Jila Panchayat. Kavita Patidar, Vice-President Gopal Chowdhary, Chairman of Laghu Udyog Nigam Babu Singh Raghuvanshi, Chairman of Civil Supplies Corporation Devraj Singh Parihar. Former MLA Jeetu Jirati, Chairman of Indore Premier Co-operative Bank Umanarayan Patel, other public representatives and farmers in large number were present on the occasion.

Narmada-Malwa-Gambhir Link Project

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan fulfilled the resolution, taken by him in the year 2012 to bring Narmada water to the basin of Kshipra, Gambhir, Kalisindh and Parvati of Malwa to ensure the permanent solution to resolve the serious water crisis of Malwa region.

This resolution is being implemented in the form of Narmada Malwa Link grand campaign. The Narmada-Malwa- Gambhir Link is the second important scheme after the Narmada- Kshipra Simhastha Link Scheme. To achieve the subsequent goals of the Narmada-Malwa Link campaign, works on Narmada-Parvati and Narmada-Kalisindh are also being started.

The command area of 50,775 hectare in Indore and Ujjain district is created by the Narmada-Malwa Gambhir Link project. The project will also facilitate potable water and water for industries of the region. A total of 15 cumec (15 cubic meter per second) Narmada water will be lifted from the main canal situated at the right bank of the Omkareshwar reservoir. Water will be lifted from the 9.775 km of the main canal by approximately 68.142 km long pipeline of 3 meter diameter upto the 427 meter height. Pipelines at both the banks of Gambhir river have been laid for distribution of irrigation water.

The length of the right bank pipeline is approximately 70.105 km, whereas the length of left bank pipeline is 57.05 km approx. The project costing Rs 2,187 crore will provide irrigation facility on 50,775 hectare of 164 villages of 7 tahsils of Indore and Ujjain district.
