Former Chief Information Commr Sergius Minj joins Congress

Retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and former Chief Information Commissioner Sergius Minj joined the Congress party in presence of Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge P L Punia, State Congress President Bhupesh Baghel, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader T S Singhdeo and former Union Minister Dr Charan Das Mahant at Rajiv Bhawan here on Sunday.


Durg MP Tamradhwaj Sahu, Rajya Sabha Member Chhaya Verma, CPCC’s ST Department Chairman Amarjeet Singh Bhagat, former CLP leader Ravindra Choubey, Shishupal Sori, former Union Minister Arvind Netam and other senior party leaders were present on the occasion.


State Congress In-charge Punia welcomed Sergius Minj garlanded him and welcomed him into the Congress fold.
Talking to media persons at Rajiv Bhawan, Sergius Minj, who was 1978 batch IAS officer, revealed that the Congress leaders were in touch with him for the last one year. “I believe in the ideology of the Congress party. So today I finally decided to join the Congress. I will be an obedient party worker and work as per the directives of the party high command,” stated Minj, hailing from Jashpur district.


Replying to a query on contesting the upcoming assembly elections, the retired IAS officer said that it is for the party to assess the ground situations and if the party wants him to contest, he is ready to contest the assembly polls. Minj had served as the Chief Information Commissioner between April 1 in 2011 and March 15 2016. He had served as Raipur and Gwalior Divisional Commissioners. Minj was also Additional Chief Secretary.  Congress sources claimed that there is a possibility of Sergius Minj contesting the assembly elections on Congress ticket from Kunkuri assembly constituency. Retired IAS officer R P S Tyagi had also joined the Congress on Saturday and in the days to come more bureaucrats is likely to join the political stream.
