THE second day of the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) sponsored course on ‘Production Logistics: Theoretical and Practical Approach to the Theory of Constraints’ began with a lecture session by Prof Alexander Pesin, the international expert for the course from the Nosov, Magnitogorsk State Technical University (NMSTU), Magnitogorsk, Russia at 9:30 am at Virtual Class Room of IIITDM Jabalpur.

After being introduced to the Fundamentals of the Theory of Constraints and the concept of resource limitations on Day 1 of the course, the participants were trained in the methodologies to tackle such limitations and bottlenecks in the lecture on the five step process of continuous company functioning improvement in accordance with the Theory of Constraints by Prof Pesin.

The participants learned about the notions and typology of constraints and their role in the production system and developed techniques for the formation of the optimal production program on the basis of Theory of Constraints.
Prof Pesin also helped the participants get familiarized with concept of indicators and indices that characterize the mission of the enterprise and the purpose of production.

This session was followed by another lecture session on the Theory of Constraints with Job Shop Scheduling by the course co-coordinator, Dr Saurabh Pratap, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Discipline. This lecture focused on the problem of optimization in operations research in which jobs are assigned to resources at particular times in order to be completed in the least time with optimum results.

Participants learned how to apply the Theory of Constraints to solve the Job shop Scheduling problem and prioritise products, jobs with respect to machines for an optimum outcome.

After lunch, the participants were taken on a sight-seeing tour to Bhedaghat, Jabalpur to enjoy the beauty of the city of Jabalpur in general and graceful River Narmada, in particular, whenit descends a massive 100 ft. creating the spectacular Dhuandhar Falls. The tour was planned with an aim to promote the natural beauty and rich culture of the city of Jabalpur among the participants visiting the city for the first time and to ensure that they have a fun filled experience throughout the duration of the course.
