CBI Court acquits 3 including the then CBI ASP

A special CBI Court in Raipur on Saturday acquitted a premier
agency officer and two others including a journalist in a bribery case in connection with the murder of a journalist in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur distirct in 2013.
Special Judge Pankaj Kumar Jain has acquitted ASP (CBI) DK Rai, Sub Inspector Laxminarayan and journalist Tapan Goswami in criminal conspiracy and corruption case linked with murder of Bilaspur-based journalist Sushil Pathak, informed Rai’s lawyer TC Pandya.


It may be recalled that ASP (CBI) DK Rai, who was heading investigation in murder case of journalist Sushil Pathak was booked after an accused in Pathak’s murder case levelled bribery charges against him. In 2013, ASP Rai was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for a day on charges of prevention of Corruption act and section 120(B) of IPC .


A 35-year-old local journalist Sushil Pathak was shot dead by unidentified persons in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh in December 2010. The incident occurred when Sushil Pathak, a journalist with local daily, was returning home from work at around 2.00 am. Pathak who was lying on the street in a pool of blood was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The assailants have pumped four bullets on Pathak leading to his death.The journalist murder case remained unsolved with CBI filing its closure report in the case in January 2016.
