Rainfall destroys Tussar silk crop in Jhoteshwar

Heavy downpour in Gotegaon region has destroyed the Tussar silk worms and caused great loss to the farmers enagged in cultivation of Tussar silk in Jhoteshwar.
It may be mentioned that the tribal beneficiaries in Jhoteshwar area, with the assistance of Silk Department, are engaged in production of Tussar silk in the forest range of Jhoteshwar. This year they were expecting good production. But due to heavy rainfall that lashed the area in last few days in Gotegaon region, Tussar silk worms have been destroyed.

Farmers informed that as the Tussar silk production was expected to around Rs 5 lakh and each beneficiaries would get income of Rs. 15,000 to 20,000. This would have ensured proper care of this worms. But this year the rainfall has damage the worms and affected the Tussar silk crops. The worms have fallen down in heavy rainfall and high velocity storm. Number of worms have flown down due to water and the others that remain on the tree branches are not eating the leaves and are in a still state. Farmers are very worried as sudden heavy rainfall and storm has destroyed their silk crop production. This time the heavy rains have has caused flood-like situation in many parts of Gotegaon region.
