In second raid, Lokayukta sleuths nabbed Sub-Engineer and a Draftsman of Civil Administration Department taking bribe of Rs 40,000

SLEUTHS of Lokayukta Police special establishment, Jabalpur, caught a Sub-Engineer and a Clerk of Bhedaghat Nagar Panchayat while taking bribe of Rs 60,000 and a Sub-Engineer and a Draftsman of Civil Administration Department while taking bribe of Rs 40,000 in two separate traps on Tuesday. The accused Sub-Engineer Abdul Mateen and Clerk Shambhu Prasad Choubey were trapped while taking bribe of Rs 60,000 at Bhedaghat Nagar Panchayat Office, while Sub-Engineer Ramesh Agrawal and Draftsman Rajesh Patel at Civil Administration Department, Madan Mahal.

DSP, Lokayukta, H P Choudhary informed that they received a complaint from a man Ram Singh that he works as a private contractor. He recently completed construction of a building of Bhedaghat Nagar Panchayat. He contacted the Sub Engineer of Bhedaghat Nagar Panchayat several times for valuation of construction work for putting-up bills to release his payment.

Sub-Engineer and Clerk of Nagar Panchayat demanded Rs 60,000 for valuation of construction work. Acting on the complaint, a team of Lokayukta police reached office of Nagar Panchayat Bhedaghat arrested the officer and employee of Government Department red-handed when they were taking bribe of Rs 60,000 from the appellant.

Lokayukta police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, while further investigations are underway. During the trap, Lokayukta police team comprised of DSP Dilip Jharwade, Inspector Swapnil Das, Constable Govind Singh, Vijay Visth and Surendra Singh Thakur. Similarly, DSP, Lokayukta, Dilip Jharbade informed that a man named Mohan Singh Thakur, working as a contractor, filed a complaint that Sub-Engineer Rakesh Agrawal and Draftsman Rajesh Patel demanded bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh for valuation of construction works and clearance of bills. He had already given bribe of Rs 1.10 lakh but corrupt officers demanded remaining payment of Rs 40,000 for issuing work completion certificate of construction works carried out at Saraswatighat. Lokayukta team fielded with appellant and trapped the corrupt officers while accepting bribe of Rs 40,000 at Civil Administration Office, Madan Mahal. During the trap, Lokayukta team was headed by DSP Dilip Jharbade comprised of Inspector Swapnil Das, Naresh, constables Surendra Bhadoria and Amit Gawande.
