State Congress President Kamal Nath has expressed concern on hike in fuel prices and said that when UPA was in power, at that time, BJP leaders used to create hullaballoo over fuel prices but now they all are silent.

Making a scathing attack on state government, Kamal Nath told that why Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is not sending the proposal to include petrol and diesel into GST. This is happening even after petroleum minister telling clearly that, if state governments send their consent proposal then petrol diesel could be taken into GST. “So far, no step has been taken by Shivraj Government in this regard,” he told.

He added that, Central Government is charging Rs 19.48 per liter as excise duty on petrol and Rs 15.33 on diesel. State Government is levying 28 percent VAT, 1 percent cess and extra Rs 4 on petrol. In this manner, state government is charging Rs 21.50 per liter on petrol. Likewise, state government is charging Rs 28.99 tax on diesel.

On the other hand, during UPA Government rule, there was only 9.2 percent Excise Duty on petrol and Rs 3.46 on diesel.
In the meantime, Congress workers have staged demonstration against rise in fuel prices and LPG gas cylinder in Roshanpura. They raised slogans that taxes on fuel and LPG gas should be rolled back to provide relief to
common people.
