MIDC police start probe to know reason behind the suicide

A police constable of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), on Wednesday, shot himself dead with a service pistol at his rented house in Datey Nagar, Jaitala. Ruling out family dispute and work pressure as reasons behind the suicide, MIDC police are suspecting something different that forced the cop to end his life. Vinod Bhagwanji Ghewande (29), a resident of Plot No. 31, Datey Nagar, Jaitala, was in SRPF Group No. XIII. He had joined Special Protection Unit (SPU) on deputation five months ago.

Vinod was earlier living in the house of in-laws in Vaishali Nagar near Jaitala. He shifted to 1 BHK rented house on first floor in Datey Nagar around a month ago. His parents also started living with him. After joining the SPU, the service pistol was issued to Vinod for VIP protection duties. After accompanying Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in city on Monday, Vinod was at home on Tuesday as there was no VIP movement in city. He reportedly consumed liquor on Tuesday night and did not returned home.

When he returned home on Wednesday morning, his wife Priyanka asked him, where was he whole night. He told her that he was at her parent’s place as he was drunk. As she kept asking him about how much liquor did he consume, he diverted her attention by asking her to search for his Debit card that was missing. When he told about the Debit card may have misplaced at her parent’s place, Priyanka left her house at around 1.45 pm. Vinod, his parents and four-year-old daughter Trija were left behind in the house.

After sometime, Vinod shot himself with his service pistol when he was alone in the bedroom. On hearing the gunshot, his parents, who were in the adjoining room, rushed to Vinod’s bedroom. They were taken aback on seeing their son lying in pool of blood. Blood was oozing from his head and the pistol lying near him. The landlord and neighbours gathered at the spot.
According to police, Vinod held the gun on the right side of his temple and pulled the trigger.

MIDC police led by PI Bharat Kshirsagar rushed to the spot after alerted by the residents. Senior officers including DCP Detection Sambhaji Kadam also visited the spot. The cops seized the pistol from the spot and sent the body to a hospital for the autopsy as Vinod breathed his last on the spot. MIDC police registered a case of accidental death and started investigation.

Vinod’s first wife had committed suicide within a year of marriage

The investigators came to know about Vinod Ghewande’s first wife had committed suicide, within a year of their marriage. Priyanka, daughter of his maternal uncle, is his second wife. Vinod’s younger brother also is with the SRPF.
Ghewande family is native of Kalmeshwar town. Vinod’s father was working as daily wage worker. The family was enjoying good days after both of its son got government jobs. Now, the tragedy has devastated the family.

‘Vinod was cool by nature’

“Vinod was very cool by nature. He was working in the SPU with full dedication. We never noticed any sign of depression on his face,” Sumitra Meshram, Police Inspector (PI), SPU, said while talking to ‘The Hitavada’.
All personnel of SPU get service pistols for security of VIPs and they used to keep the fire-arm with them as they have to report on duty at any time depending on VIP movement, added Meshram.
