Rare Bramha Kamal blooms at MoS Jalam Singh Patel’s residence

Bramha Kamal, the rare, legendary and mythological plant of India, has bloomed at house of Minister of State Jalam Singh Patel.A large number of devotees are visiting his residence to worship the Brahma Kamal. The Bramha Kamal has large pure white star-like flowers with lovely fragrance to help their pollinators locate the blossoms by moon or starlight. The flower starts blooming after sunset from 7 pm onwards and takes about two hours to full bloom, about 8 inches in diameter and remain open throughout night. Bramha Kamal, named after Bramha, the God of Creation, probably blooms only for one night in the entire year, somewhere between July and September.


It is commonly known as Night blooming Cereus, Queen of the night, Lady of the night as its beautiful Lotus like flower blooms late night. In India it is called as Bramha Kamal and is treated as a sacred plant. Bramha kamal is a medicinal herb. The plant is considered an herb in Tibetan medicine. It has a bitter taste. The entire plant is used. It is also used to cure urogenital disorders.
