Workshop on Martritva Vandana Yojana held

To provide details about Pradhan Mantri Martritva Vandana Yojana, Manish Sharma, District Programme Officer, Woman and Child Development Department called a media workshop at Collectorate on Thursday.

Explaining about Yojana, District Programme Officer, Manish Sharma informed the Yojana commenced in the district from January 1, 2017. It has two objectives to provide partial compensation to the working women for the loss of their wages and ensuring their proper restraint and to reduce the effect of under-nutrition through improving health of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers anc cash incentives.

The scheme will help pregnancy and pregnant women in many ways. The incentives are provided in three instalments including Rs. 1 thousand at the time of registration of pregnancy, Rs 2 thousand after first pre-pregnancy test and remaining 2 thousand after registration of child birth and first phase of vaccination, respectively. Sharma further added that till date a total of 18 thousand 259 beneficiaries have been registered under the scheme in Jabalpur district.

Out of whom, around 15 thousand 593 beneficiaries have received their first instalment, while 11 thousand 408 and 5 thousand 430 beneficiaries have been paid with their second and third instalments, respectively. The District Programme Officer informed that marking the first anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Martritva Vandana Yojana, Martritva Vandana Saptah is being organised from September 1 to 7, 2018.

The programme is being organized at the district and project-level. Many activities including quiz in schools and colleges, awareness for ensuring nutritional balanced diet for pregnant and lactating mothers, rallies at project-level and activities through social media are being organised to create maximum awareness among common public.
