Staff Reporter,

Taking serious note of rowdy behaviour of Adv Dipesh Madanlal Parate, the State Government has removed him as Additional Public Prosecutor. Adv Dipesh Parate had slapped Civil Judge Senior Division Kiran R Deshpande in the court premises on December 26 and had openly warned him of dire consequences after the latter passed an adverse order in a civil suit filed by the lawyer’s father Madanlal. Dipesh was taken into custody by Sadar Police and later offences punishable under Sections 353, 506 and 332 of the Indian Penal Code were registered against him.

The High Court had also initiated suo-motu contempt proceedings against him for his outrageous act of assaulting the judicial officer and refused to show any leniency towards him. The incident had evoked widespread condemnation in legal fraternity and State Law and Judiciary department was contemplating his removal from the post.

Maharashtra State Judges Association in a strongly worded letter had  demanded immediate action against Parate and his removal from the post of Additional Public Prosecutor. The association had slammed Parate for assaulting a sitting judicial officer and described it as a serious threat to independence of judiciary.

District Government Pleader Nitin Telgote had submitted a factual report to State Law and Judiciary department about the shocking episode while condemning the incident. Finally on Monday, the State Law and Judiciary terminated appointment of Parate as APP for his reprehensible act while acting on this report. Parate was appointed as APP in 2015 and his term was to expire on October 10, 2019.
