The Hitavada State Bureau,

In a most glaring and surprising incident in the state’s polity, two significant power-centers of Chhattisgarh’s politics, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and former Chief Minister and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) President Ajit Jogi, came face to face today during a courtesy meeting.

As were their political enmity widely reported, their surprising meeting also became an important issue of discussion among the people throughout the state today. As Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel emerged as one of the biggest face in the state polity, keeping all political enmity at bay former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi reached Chhattisgarh Sadan in Bilaspur to meet him along with his family members. Although the meeting was stated to be a courtesy one by sources close to both the leaders but political analysts have already started to exploring the political meaning of this meeting, though it was for a short period of five minutes.

During the meeting former Chief Minister and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) President Ajit Jogi extended his best wishes and congratulations to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. During the meeting Jogi put forth his demand for constituting 3 blocks Marwahi-Pendra-Gaurela into a district. He also demanded to constitute Manendragarh and Chirmiri into a joint district. Jogi was accompanied by Kota MLA Dr Renu Jogi, Lormi MLA Dharamjit Singh and Amit Jogi. Apart from Jogi, all the other three leaders also expressed their best wishes to the Chief Minister.

Earlier, the Jogi family had to wait for approximately one hour inside the Chhattisgarh Sadan as Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was addressing Congress workers. Ironically, during his address to his party workers, the Chief Minister had even criticised Jogi without taking his name. He stated that some people were dreaming of becoming kingmaker and enjoy power. However, these comments made by Baghel were taken sportingly by Jogi. He said in politics such things happen. He said Baghel was speaking from his stage, hence he was leveling allegations. When we will speak from our stage we will also level allegations and by raking up burning issues in the Assembly.

During his meeting with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, JCC(J) President Ajit Jogi said tribal dominated Marwahi-Pendra-Gaurela blocks are situated 150 kms away from Bilaspur district head-quarters. These blocks having over 2.5 lakh population is dominated by people from Adivasi community and Primitive Tribal Groups. During August 1, 1998, the then Madhya Pradesh government had published a proposal in the gazette regarding converting all these three blocks into a district. However, due to obvious reasons, it couldn’t be materialized till date. The Congress in its Jan Ghoshna Patra had announced to carve out new districts in areas where it is utmost necessary and on public demand. Keeping all these situations in mind these three blocks should be converted into district at the earliest.

Similarly, demanding joint district status for Manendragarh and Chirmiri, the JCC (J) President said that both these commercial cities had been neglected by both previous Congress and BJP governments and presently both the cities are striving hard for their very existence. The people of both these cities are demanding for joint district status since 1978. Hence in order to bring development to this part of the state, it is necessary to provide joint district status to both these cities.
