Electrocution has claimed lives of 122 people and 130 animals in Nagpur District in the last two years, claimed Umakant Dhote, Electrical Inspector while addressing a press conference recently.  Around 25 people have died due to electrocution by water coolers while 63 people had suffered injuries in electrical accidents in the last two years, said Dhote.  He was addressing media persons about Electrical Safety Week which will be observed through State during January 11 to January 17, organised by Industry, Energy and Labour Department.

As per the data provided by Dhote, 131 incidents of fire took place due to short circuits in the last two years.
Superintending Engineer Vinay Nagdev said, “Though the number of deaths due to electrocution have been reduced as compared to last year but still awareness about electrical accidents and its safety is must.”  Nagdev has appealed everyone to install ‘Earth Leakage Applicator’ at home as it avoids any electrical untoward incidents.

In 2017-18, 74 people died and 37 were injured due to electrocution while in 2018-2019, 48 people died and 26 were injured.  In 2017-18, 91 incidents of fire were reported due to short circuit while in last year only 40 incidents were reported.

Electrical Safety Week to be observed from today
This year, the state level inauguration of Electrical Safety Week  will be carried out by Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of  Energy, New and Renewable at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines on January 11 at 11 am. Madan Yerawar, Minister of State for Energy, Mayor Nanda Jichkar, MP Dr Vikas Mahatme, MP Krupal Tumane will be the chief guest.
MLC Nago Ganar, Prakash Gajbhiye, Jogendra Kawade, Anil Sole, Girish Vyas and MLA Sunil Kedar, MLA Krishna Khopde, MLA Vikas Kumbhare, MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, MLA Sudhir Parve, MLA Milind Mane, MLA Sudhakar Kohale, MLA D Mallikarjun Reddy, MLA Nishatai Sawarkar, President, ZP will be present as special guests.

‘Vidyut Tarang’ souvenir-2019 and the diary of Electrical Contractor’s Association will be released at the hands of Bawankule. The programme include the glimpse of the activities conducted during the safety week. Also, the self explanatory and live miniature models showing how the electrical accident occurs will be exhibited at the venue. Vinay Nagdev, Superintending Engineer, Sharad Durugkar, Sachin Sawalkar, Ravindra Deshmukh, Nitin Khirwadkar, Deva Dhore, Ashok Parad were present for the press conference
