Illegal structures mushrooming along main roads removed

The Anti-encroachment Department of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC), on Thursday conducted drive in many areas of the city and removed a number of illegal temporary structures which were mushrooming along main roads. The central squad of anti-encroachment department removed temporary structures, seized articles, which were placed by the shopkeepers on footpaths and roads. The squad also removed dozens of sheds which got stretched on shops.

Superintendent, Anti-encroachment, Narendra Rajput informed that the central squad of anti-encroachment department conducted drive in different areas of the city. The squad started the drive by removing temporary structures got placed on the banks of river Narmada at Uma Ghat and Darogaghat. Rajput said on Makar Sankranti thousands of devotees throng the river banks. Hence to ensure  their convenience, the civic body had removed temporary structures from Uma Ghat and Darogaghat.
Later, the squad conducted drive from Gohalpur Police Station to Miloniganj, Ranital to Gullua Chowk, Chhoti line crossing and other adjoining areas. During the drive the anti-encroachment squad removed a large number of kiosks, makeshift shops and handcarts which got placed along the main road. Rajput said the squad also seized commodities from erring shopkeepers.

Likewise, the JMC employees also pull down tin sheds which got stretched over shops. The anti-encroachment squad also shifted a number of vegetable vendors, who place shops along main road from Ranital to Gullua Chowk to Kachhpura Hawker Zone. He said the encroachments were hindering traffic movement and were causing inconvenience to pedestrians as well as motorists.

Rajput said the anti-encroachment department would now conduct drive regularly to remove temporary encroachments from main roads and squares. The illegal structures create traffic jam like situation on main roads.
He said the Municipal Commissioner has asked the anti-encroachment department to conduct drive regularly and ensure temporary structures are not placed along main roads. He directed Incharges of anti-encroachment squad to act tough against encroachers and seize commodities if placed on footpaths and roads.

The Superintendent said soon the anti-encroachment department would prepare challan of erring shopkeepers and would realize fine from them for encroaching roads and hindering traffic movement.
