Make optimum use of fly ash to bring down pollution level: Hussain

While inaugurating the three-day international conference -‘Green Ashcon 2019’ - on technological developments in fly ash utilisation here, former Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Ex- CEO of CREDAI-MCHI, S S Hussain said that maximum utilisation of fly ash would bring down the level of pollution. He appealed to all the stakeholders to make optimum use of fly ash and contribute in environmental protection.

The conference being held at VNIT auditorium, also witnessed presence of Chairman of Maharashtra State Mining Corporation Limited (MSMCL) - Ashish Jaiswal; Chairman VNIT - Vishram Jamdar; Managing Director of MSMCL - S Ramamoorthy; Expert Member MS Fly Ash Council - Sudhir Paliwal; Director VNIT - Dr Pramod Padole; Purshottam Jadhav from MahaGenco and others.

Hussain highlighted that use of fly ash is very important from the perspective of nature conservation. “The ill effect of pollution are being reflected in various form. Sea water level is showing rise, we are receiving untimely rains, extreme temperatures and climatic changes are happening because of over exploitation of natural resources,” he pointed out. However, Hussain expressed satisfaction over the Maharashtra Government’s decision to bring in policy on fly ash. Sudhir Paliwal said that Uninon Minister Nitin Gadkari has been taking keen interest in fly ash utilisation and thus promotion it.

“The Government is encouraging fly ash utilisation in areas wherever the ash is available in excess. The authorities are promoting setting up of ‘Laxmitaru’ plant to produce bricks and other products out of fly ash,” he said. MahaGenco has set up many such plants all over the State. Paliwal further expressed satisfaction over VNIT’s research work on fly ash. Technical exhibition was also inaugurated on the occasion at the hands of the dignitaries.

The exhibition is showcasing various materials used in constructions and roads building that are made from fly ash. Tiles, paves blocks are also showcased in the exhibition. Dr Indu Muzumdar conducted the peoceedings of the inaugural session and proposed vote of thanks.
