Cops claimed that due to their alertness, less number of accidents occurred during New Year celebration

Bhopal police seemed to be in no mood to let go lenient on offenders - especially during the night hours – this year-end as in a major crackdown on New Year’s eve, at least 200 people were nailed by cops at different checking points during intervening night of Monday-Tuesday.


Cops claimed that due to their alertness, less number of accidents occurred during New Year celebration. Cops observed that sober persons got irritated due to heavy security arrangements so they wished them Happy New Year and convinced them that this arrangement is for their security and safety. Cops called family and friends of drunken persons and handed over them to take them home safely. Around 200 checkpoints were established to detect drunk and drive cases across city.


Meanwhile, 6 policemen faced strict action as they were found indulging in negligence of duty. According to a press note released by Bhopal police, Monday late night, ASI Akal Singh and other 5 policemen were not performing their duties sincerely at Roshanpura Square. In accordance with CM Kamal Nath’s directive, Director General of Police Rishi Kumar Shukla on Tuesday gave much-awaited New Year’s gift by issuing an order that field-level personnel would henceforth be granted weekly offs.

If a policeman fails to take the off due to field duty, he would be entitled to get the off within a month. However, if he fails to take off within a month, the off will lapse. CM Kalam Nath had made the announcement regarding weekly off of policemen before election. He had held a meeting with senior police officers of State just after assuming his post as CM and asked them to prepare a plan to provide a day off to police personnel in a week.
