CM gives nod to Phase-2 of Nagpur Metro Rail project

On the very first day of the year 2019, Phase-2 of Nagpur Metro Rail project got the nod of Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister. The total length of Phase-1 is 39.95 km and that of Phase-2 is 48.3 km. The expenditure on Phase-2 works is estimated to be Rs 11,216 crore.  Fadnavis gave nod to the Phase-2 of the ambitious project, in a meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of district; Krupal Tumane, Member of Parliament from Ramtek; Sudhir Parwe, Umred MLA, were present in the meeting.


The officers of Maha Metro-Nagpur made presentation on Phase-2 of Nagpur Metro Rail project. Already, the work on Phase-1 is in progress and is at advanced stage. The first phase has 38 stations in two stretches -- MIHAN to Automotive Square, and Lokmanya Nagar to Prajapati Nagar. These two routes have interchange station at Sitabuldi. Towards the end of the year 2018, the construction work is nearing completion and in some parts rail tracks also have been laid. Already, a small joy ride is being conducted on a regular basis from Airport Station to Khapri Station.


The Phase-2 will cover 48.3 km stretch divided into five segments -- Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna, Wasudeo Nagar to Wadi, Automotive Square to Kanhan river, Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar, and MIHAN to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) elevated service reservoir (ESR). In the Phase-2, interchange station will be at Wasudeo Nagar. In all, there will be 35 stations in Phase-2.
The estimated expenditure on Phase-2 works will be Rs 11,216 crore. It is estimated to create additional commuting potential for 2.9 lakh commuters per day by the year 2024. With Phase-1 and Phase-2, the total commuting potential of the project is expected to be 5.5 lakh commuters per day.

NMC to release Rs 11 cr for Metro Mall construction

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will release Rs 11 crore to Maha Metro to start construction of a Metro Mall coming up over 3,308 sq mt land of Orange City Street near Metro Station near Radisson Blu. The decision to release fund will be taken in a meeting of Standing Committee slated on January 2.


Recently, Maha Metro and NMC had signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding construction of a Metro Mall at this spot near Jaiprakash Nagar Metro Railway Station. The bhoomipujan of the project will be performed at the hands of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari on January 19.


This complete stretch of 30.49 hectare has been divided into 21 huge plots to pave way for construction in piecemeal manner. The Town Planning Department has already sanctioned building plan of Metro Mall.  The civic body will give 2.5 per cent fees to Maha Metro while 3 per cent fees will be given to noted architect Hafeez Contractor who has been engaged for this ambitious project.
As per MoU, the civic body will hand over the land to Maha Metro to construct the proposed mall. After construction, the Metro will hand over the mall to NMC and ownership will be with NMC. The proposed ‘Metro Mall’ and Jaiprakash Nagar metro railway station will be inter-connected at the third floor of the mall.


As per plan, the Metro mall will be a 45 meters high eight-storeyed structure.
The mall will have two basements for parking of vehicles. The parking space will be enough for parking of 49 cars, 98 scooters and bicycles each. The first to fourth floors will be reserved exclusively for shops, while the construction between fifth and eighth floor will be used for office purposes. The carpet
area for shops will be about 1,735 sq. mtrs and office spaces of 3,200 sq. mtrs.
