SPORTS and Youth Welfare Department is yet to ensure optimum use of grand sports complex in providing better training facilities and developing a healthy sporting environment in the city. Veerangana Rani Durgawati Sports Complex, Ranital, includes a grand Cricket Stadium, Baburao Paranjpe Indoor Badminton Hall, Cycling Velodrome, Archery Training Centre and Hostel of Madhya Pradesh State Archery Academy, Synthetic Lawn Tennis Court, separate Volleyball Courts, Hockey Astro-turf Ground, Kabaddi courts and open gymnasium but the players are yet to get desired benefits and facilities at the sports complex.

Cycling Velodrome is lying barren due to damaged track, while newly established Hockey Astro-turf ground has no toilet and changing room facilities. The grand sports complex has not a single urinal or changing room for players and visitors while girl players face tough time in absence of such facilities.

Director of Sports and Youth Welfare MP S L Thousan (IPS), during his maiden visit to the sports complex, appreciated development of a grand sports complex in the city and expressed need to provide its utmost benefits to budding players and face upliftment of sports complex. District Sports Officer, Santosh Singh Rajput, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ informed that the Hockey Astro-turf ground is still under construction. Field work of the stadium has been completed and changing room and bathroom will be constructed soon for the players.

He informed that construction of volleyball ground with flood light facility has been completed and a proposal for construction of changing room and bathroom near the court has been forwarded to higher authorities to get further approval. Many players regularly visit Ranital Sports Complex to practice Cricket, Archery, Boxing, Cycling, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Malkhambh, Kho-kho, Hockey, Badminton games but not a single common urinal is available in the sports complex.

Urinals were built by Jabalpur Municipal Corporation at the sports complex under the head of Bharat Swachhta Abhiyan but all were damaged due to absence of security and safety arrangements. Players undergoing training at the sports complex bring laurels to Jabalpur and Madhya Pradesh in national and international competitions.
